Dinosaur National Monument, CO & UT (2)

Am Sonntag Morgen nahmen wir Abschied von unserer Campsite, verbrachten aber noch einige Stunden im National Monument.

On Sunday Morning we said goodbye to our campsite although we still would stay some more time inside the National Monument.

Wir folgten der Strasse in die Cub Creek Area, wo wir wieder sehr imposante Gesteinsformationen sehen wuerden, genauso wie Petroglyphs und eine alte Ranch. 

We followed the road into the Cub Creek Area, where we would see might rock formations as well as petroglyphs, and also a historic ranch.

Turtle Rock

Am Ende der Strasse kommt man an die verlassene Ranch von Josie Bassett Morris. Sie lebte hier alleine von 1914 bis zu ihrem Tod in 1964. Sie hatte Kuehe, Huehner und natuerlich auch einen grossen Obst- und Gemuesgarten. Nach ihrem Tod fiel die Ranch an das Dinosaur National Monument, aber man kann noch immer so einige Spuren von ihrem Leben hier sehen.

At the end of the road the abandoned ranch of Josie Bassett Morris is waiting. She lived here independently from 1914 until 1964, when she died. She raised cattle and chickens, and also had a large fruit orchard. After her death the ranch became part of the Dinosaur National Monument, but there are still traces of her life in the area.

  

Gleich gegenueber des Hauses fuehrt der kurze Box Canyon Trail  dorthin, wo frueher die Kuehe weideten.

Right across the ranch house the Box Canyon Trail leads to the area where the cattle grazed.

Fuer uns ging es nun zurueck, da wir noch zur Quarry Exhibit Hall und dem Fossil Discovery Trail wollten.

We drove back since we also wanted to visit the Quarry Exhibit Hall and the Fossil Discovery Trail.

Dabei kamen wir dann noch an den Swelter Shelter Petroglyphs vorbei.

On our way we stopped at the Swelter Shelter Petroglyhs.

Zum Abschluss ging es dann noch in das Aussengelaende zum Fossil Discovery Trail.

At last we went outside and hiked along the Fossil Discovery Trail.

Dino-Knochen/ dinosaur bones

Bevor wir uns auf den Weg nach Hause machten, fanden wir noch dieses lauschige Plaetzchen an der Besucherinformationen und so machten wir noch ein Picknick.

Before we started our way home we found this nice space right in front of the visitor information, and so we had a picnic here.

Und dann ging es rund 5 Stunden Fahrt nach Hause, wobei wir unterwegs schon die naechsten Ziele entdeckten.

Driving home took about 5 hours, and we also got some ideas for other trips along the route.
