4960 Miles

We started this blog in 2011 while moving from Berlin, Germany to Greater Vancouver, Canada. The blog name was the distance between both cities, which now isn't the same anymore. In 2016 we became Canadian citizens in addition to our German citizenship. Around the same time Andreas was offered a move to the States (transfer within the same company he already was with in Canada) and so we moved to Greater Denver, Colorado, where we now live pretty rural in the Foothills of the Rockies. We love to travel as one can see in our blog posts.

South Dakota (4) - Custer State Park

Our next destination was the Custer State Park, which we visited for the first time this day (but only quick drive through). Custer is THE State Park in South Dakota and a must see. Originally we wanted to spend the afternoon at the lake in our State Park. But we learned in the morning that dogs were prohibited in the entire beach area. While in Colorado dogs are only prohibited directly on the swim beach areas, here dogs are prohibited inside the entire swimming area which one only entered through a staffed booth. And dogs weren't allowed behind the booth. That kind of sucked since that applied to all lakes in the area (since they were all on State Park property), and we brough our SUP for nothing. So we had to re-plan this day and some others, too.

We entered the park through the west entrance and stopped at Stockade Lake.

wir fuhren dann entlang des Wildlife Loop

we followed the route of the Wildlife Loop

and we saw the buffalo for which Custer is so well known

nur 15 min spaeter sahen wir die 2. Herd

only 15 mins later we saw a second herd

and not far from that another single buffalo was hiding in the grass

we also stopped at Legion Lake before leaving Custer
