 An diesem Morgen hatten wir noch einmal ein leckeres Fruehstueck auf der Hotelterrasse bevor wir das Gepaeck ins Auto raeumten. Da unser Rueckflug aus Split erst am Abend war, hatten wir noch einige Stunden Zeit. Wir beschlossen, einmal ueber die Stadtmauer zu laufen, der Eintrittspreis von 35 Euro ist nicht gerade guenstig, beinhaltet aber ebenfalls den Eintritt fuer das Fort Lovrjenac. Wir fanden, die Ausblicke, die man von der Statdmauer und auch dem Fort bekommt, war das Geld durchaus wert. 

This morning we had another delicious breakfast on the hotel terrace before putting our luggage in the car. Since our return flight from Split wasn't until the evening, we still had a few hours to spare. We decided to walk over the city walls. The entrance fee of 35 euros is not exactly cheap, but it also includes the entrance fee to Fort Lovrjenac. We thought the views you get from the city walls and the fort were well worth the money.

Zuerst ging es die steilen Treppen hinauf.

First, we went up the steep stairs.

Die Mauer ist ein sehr beeinduckendes Bauwerk. Die Gesamtlaenge betraegt 1940m, an den hoechsten Stellen ist sie 25m hoch, und die Staerke der Hauptmauer betraegt 1,5 - 3m an der Meerseite sowie 4 - 6m zur Landseite. Es gibt verschiedene Bastionen und Tuerme, welche den Schutz vor Angriffen gewaehrleisten sollten.

The wall is an impressive structure. It's 6365 feet long, at its highest points, it's 25 m (83 feet) high, and the thickness of the main wall is 1.5 - 3 m (5-10 feet) on the seaside and 4 - 6 m (13-20 feet) on the land side. Various bastions and towers were intended to provide protection against attacks.

Mittig sieht man die Festung Sveti Ivan (auch Festung des hl. Johannes) aus dem 14. bis 16. Jahrhundert (SO), welche den Stadthafen beschützte.

In the middle, you can see the Fortress of Sveti Ivan (also the Fortress of St. John) from the 14th to 16th centuries (SE), which protected the city harbor.

Fuer die Stadtmauer haben wir rund 2.5h benoetigt, da wir wirklich viel geguckt haben. Anschliessend besuchten wir dann die Festung Lovrijenac, welche durch die Lage auf einem 37 Meter hohen Felsen eine grosse Rolle spielte bei der Verteidigung der Stadt. Augrund der dreieckförmigen, spitzen Form hat die Festung auch den Spitznamen „Gibraltar von Dubrovnik“ .

It took us around 2.5 hours to circle the city wall because we really enjoyed the views. We then visited the Lovrijenac Fortress, which played a major role in the city's defense due to its location on a 37-meter-high rock. Due to its triangular, pointed shape, the fortress is also nicknamed the “Gibraltar of Dubrovnik”.

Dann war es auch schon Zeit fuer den Abschied. Wir mussten zurueck nach Split fuer unseren Rueckflug nach Berlin. Prinzipiell kann man auch direkt von Dubrovnik fliegen, aber da es noch Vorsaison war, war der Flugplan noch recht ausgeduennt und an diesem Tag gab es keine Fluege. Dubrovnik bietet noch soviel mehr und unser Aufenthalt war auch hier zu kurz.

Then it was time to say goodbye. We had to go back to Split for our flight back to Berlin. In principle, you can also fly directly from Dubrovnik, but since it was still early season, the flight schedule was still quite thin and there were no flights that day. Dubrovnik offers so much more and our stay here was too short.

Wir hatten uns in Split noch ein letztes kroatisches Essen gegoennt, bevor es dann in den Easyjet Flieger ging. Split ist ein sehr suesser, kleiner Flughafen und wir muessen hier tatsaechlich mal Easyjet loben. Alles puenktlich, jeder freundlich, davon koennen sich Lufthansa und Air France mal einiges abschauen.

We treated ourselves to one last Croatian meal in Split before boarding the Easyjet plane. Split is a very cute, small airport and we actually have to praise Easyjet here. Everything was on time, and everyone friendly, Lufthansa and Air France can learn a lot from them.
