Nachdem wir am Vortag von Muecken zerbissen wurden, das Kind von einer Zecke angeknabbert und die Luftfeuchte unertraeglich war, haben wir uns spontan fuer einen Tagesausflug nach Kansas City entschieden. Das war urspruenglich gar nicht geplant, aber ein paar SMS spaeter hatten wir dann fuer den Abend dort auch eine Verabredung zum Abendessen. Kansas City ist von daher ungewoehnlich, da es sich ueber 2 Bundesstaaten erstreckt: naemlich Missouri und Kansas.
After we got bitten by a lot of mosquitos, Dominik was attacked by a tick, and high humidity in the park, we spontaneously decided to do a day trip to Kansas City. A few messages later we were set up for a dinner date.
Unser erster Stop war das Shoal Creek Living History Museum, leider waren die Haeuser nicht von innen zu besichtigen. Aber an allen Gebaeuden fanden sich Schautafeln die ueber die ehemaligen Bewohner und das Innere Auskunft gaben.
Our first stop was at the Shoal Creek Living History Museum. Unfortunately, the buildings were all closed but the information boards in front of them gave an insight into the former owners and the houses as well.
Anschliessend ging es hinein ins Stadtzentrum.

Wir besuchten das Parkhaus der Kansas City Bibliothek, dessen Wande naemlich wie Buecher verziert waren. Innen ist die Bibliothek auch toll, aber das haben wir uns nicht angeschaut.
We visited the parking garage of the Kansas City Central Library, the walls are painted like book covers. The inside of the library is quite nice, too, but we didn't visit that.
Unser naechstes Ziel war die Union Station mit der Bloch Fountain davor.

Wir waren leider ein paar Tage zu frueh, aber in der Union Station ist eine Ausstellung ueber das KZ Auschwitz geplant, draussen findet man einen der Gueterwagen mit denen die Menschen damals dorthin tranportiert wurden.
Unfortunately, we were a few days too early but inside the Union Station will be an exhibition about the concentration camp Auschwitz. In front of the station, one can see one of the waggons which carried people to that camp.
Natuerlich duerfte ein Blick in die Bahnhofshalle nicht fehlen.
Sure, we had to have a look inside the Union Station.
Von der Union Station ist es nur ein kurzer Spaziergang zum National World War I Memorial mit dem Liberty Tower.

Und zum Schluss besuchten wir noch einen Skulpturen Park, den ich sehr interessant fand. Dort fand man u.a. riesige Federbaelle.
The last location for that day was a sculpture Park, I was really interested in seeing those giant shuttlecocks.
Unterwegs hielten wir noch schnell bei Starbucks um meine Sammlung zu erweitern.
We stopped at a Starbucks to extend my collection.
Und dann war es auch schon soweit: wir waren zum Abendessen mit einem Kollegen von Andreas verabredet, dafuer ging es von Kansas City, Missouri nun nach Kansas City, Kansas. Steve brachte auch seine Familie mit und wir hatten eine sehr entspannte Zeit mit reden und essen und der Abend war leider viel zu schnell um.
And then we met a co-worker of Andreas's with his family for dinner, so we had to cross the State line from Kansas City, MO to Kansas City, KS. We had a great time chatting and eating which flew by way too fast.
Das wirkt ja wie ausgestorben. Lag es an der Tageszeit oder sind die alle dem Virus zum Opfer gefallen...?
ReplyDeletedas haben wir uns auch gefragt, aber das war echt ueberall so in Nebraska und auch Kansas City, absolut verstoerend. Die Restaurants waren allerdings voll, genauso die Walmarts. Und die muessen auch zu 100% geimpft worden sein als Quote, niemand hatte Masken auf *ironieoff*. War schon sehr eigenartig.
