Die Fahrt nach Antwerpen dauerte unendlich lang, fuer 150 km benoetigten wir mit einem kurzen Zwischenstop tatsaechlich fast 5h. Wir erreichten unser Hotel in der Innenstadt erst gegen 19 Uhr, was wir dann doch recht aergerlich fanden. Die Strecke war voller Staus, und wir sind dann sogar teilweise Landstrasse gefahren, da das Navi uns das als zeitlich schneller anzeigte. Das hatten wir schon lange nicht mehr :-( (und vermissen wir auch nicht).
The drive to Antwerp took forever, for 150 km (90 miles) we needed about 5 hours including a short break. The highway was so crowded, so full of traffic jams, that our navigation lead us through several county roads to save time. We arrived at our hotel in downtown Antwerp only at 7 pm, which was kind of unfortunate.

Der Auftakt fuer viele, viele Camper, die wir in den Niederlande/Belgien/Deutschland gesehen haben. Soviel auf einmal haben wir selbst in Kanada und USA nicht auf einem Haufen gesehen.
The beginning of many, many trailers we've seen during our drives through Netherlands/Belgium/Germany. That many at once we never recognized either in Canada or the USA.
Was waren wir ueberrascht, Lay's Paprika zu sehen, die gibts in den USA nicht (also von keinem Hersteller, und Lay's ist der groesste)
We were kind of surprised to find Lay's Paprika potato chips, we don't have them in the US (well, none of the brands here carry such chips, and Lay's is the biggest)

Da Andreas Diamant Status bei Hilton hat, konnten wir in die kostenlose Lounge. Dort gibts immer ein paar Kleinigkeiten zu essen, Knabberkram, sowie alkoholische und antialkoholische Getraenke. Wir staerkten uns dort ein wenig, bevor wir dann in das abendliche Antwerpen gingen. Aufgrund der verlorenen Zeit, blieben wir in einem kleinen Radius, und GsD waren wir nicht weit vom historischen Historischen Marktplatz "Grote Markt" entfernt.
Andreas has Diamond Status with Hilton, and so we visited the lounge. There are snacks and a buffett for free available, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. We enjoyed some of the things before we walked through downtown Antwerp. Since it was already late, we only kept a short radius around the hotel, luckily not being far away from the historic market place "Grote Markt".

Gleich bei der Kathedrale findet man die Skulptur des Jungen Nello und seines Hundes Patrasche, nach einem bekannten Kinderbuch "A dog of Flanders", welches in Deutschland als Trickfilm unter dem Namen: "Niklaas, ein Junge aus Flandern" ausgestrahlt wurde. Die Serie habe ich als Kind total gern geschaut. Die Skulptur bezieht sich auf das Ende der Geschichte.
Right in front of the Cathedral one can find the sculpture of the boy Nello and his dog Patrasche, after a famous children book. The sculpture relates to the end of the story.
Leider konnte man die Kathedrale nicht betreten.
Unfortunately, the Cathedral was closed.
Dann kamen wir am "Grote Markt" (Grosser Marktplatz) an, wo noch zahlreiche Zunfthaeuser aus dem 16. und 17. Jahrhundert erhalten sind.
We arrived at the "Grote Markt" (Great Market Square) where one still can see a lot of the historic guildhalls from the 16th and 17th century.

Das Rathaus war leider auch eingepackt wegen Bauarbeiten.

als wir hungrig waren, entschieden wir uns fuer einen Italiener :-), der war rappelvoll als wir uns hinsetzten und es hat sehr gut geschmeckt.
as we got hungry we went for Italian food, the restaurant was completely occupied when we sat down and the food was very good.
Dominik wollte dann langsam wieder ins Hotel, und so machten wir uns auf in die Richtung
