road trip 04 - 06/2024: Taos (NM), day 1-3

Im April ging es dann fuer uns auf "grosse" Reise, wir waren fuer knapp 5 Wochen am Stueck unterwegs, das Ziel war diesmal der Suedwesten mit New Mexico und Arizona. Dafuer gab es auch eine neue Anschaffung, um den grossen Camper besser zu nutzen: einen Waschtrockner.

In April we went on a "big" trip, we were on the road for almost 5 weeks at a time, and this time the destination was the southwest with New Mexico and Arizona. There was also a new purchase to make better use of the large camper: a washer-dryer-combo.

Unser erster Stop war fuer 2 Naechte Taos in New Mexico. Wir hatten einen netten RV Platz gefunden, der nicht weit von allem entfernt war und vor allem geoeffnet hatte :-).

Our first stop was Taos in New Mexico for 2 nights. We had found a nice RV place that wasn't far from everything and, above all, was open :-).

Am naechsten Morgen erreichte uns die Wetterfront, die auch ueber Colorado war ud es schneite.

The next morning the weather front reached us, which was also over Colorado and it was snowing.

Spaeter ging es einfach nur in Regen ueber, der immer wieder kam. Wir brauchten 3 Anlaeufe, um es bei brauchbarem Wetter zum Rio Grande del Norte National Monument zu schaffen. Es war dann zwar noch windig, aber man kann nicht alles haben. Bei den Versuchen davor hat es immer ploetzlich begonnen stark zu regnen inkl. Gewitter. Der Ausblick auf die Schlucht war trotzdem gut.

Later it just turned into rain, which kept coming. It took us 3 attempts to make it to the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument in decent weather. It was still windy, but you can't have everything. During the previous experiments it always suddenly started to rain heavily, including thunderstorms. The view of the gorge was still good.

Diese Reise war auch fuer uns eine Neuheit: Andreas hat ganz regulaer gearbeitet. Dank Starlink, einem von dem US-Raumfahrtunternehmen SpaceX betriebenes Satellitennetzwerk, haben wir nun ueberall Empfang, selbst in den abgelegendsten Gebieten wo frueher kein Empfang war. Wir wollten es mit dieser Reise testen, ob das arbeiten von unterwegs mit Ausfluegen zu verbinden ist und vor allem ob Starlink haelt was es verspricht. Auf dem Bild sieht man die Antenne, die am Boden stehend einfach nur entsprechend einer App ausgerichtet werden muss.

This trip was also new for us: Andreas worked completely regularly. Thanks to Starlink, a satellite network operated by the US space company SpaceX, we now have reception everywhere, even in the most remote areas where there was previously no reception. With this trip, we wanted to test whether working on the road could be combined with excursions and, above all, whether Starlink delivers what it promises. In the picture, you can see the antenna which simply needs to be aligned according to an app while standing on the ground.

Am naechsten Tag besuchten wir den Stadtkern von Taos, waren aber sehr enttaeuscht. Es handelt sich hierbei nur um Souvenirlaeden, die alle das gleiche Zeug verkaufen.

The next day we visited the center of Taos but were very disappointed. These are just souvenir shops that all sell the same stuff.

Zuletzt fuhren wir dann noch entlang des Enchanted Circle Scenic Drive und hatten ein Picknick an einem schoenen See.

Finally, we drove along the Enchanted Circle Scenic Drive and had a picnic by a beautiful lake.

Als Tagesabschluss gingen wir in einem mexikanischen Restaurant essen (Guadalajara Grill, fur gut befunden) und raeumten schon mal Dinge im Camper zusammen, die wir abends nicht mehr brauchen wuerden. Am naechsten Tag ging die Fahrt weiter.

At the end of the day, we had dinner at a Mexican restaurant (Guadalajara Grill, found it good) and put things together in the camper that we wouldn't need anymore in the evening. The next day the journey continued.
