12/2025: Poznań, PL

 Im Dezember flogen wir wieder nach Berlin, um Weihnachten und Neujahr mit Dominik sowie weiterer Familie und Freunden zu verbringen. Damit es auch für uns ein paar Tage "echten Urlaub" gab (in Berlin gibt's ja an Haus/Grundstück noch viel zu tun), sind Andreas und ich ein paar Tage nach Polen gefahren. Hauptziel war Warschau, aber auf dem Weg dorthin stoppten wir in Poznań (Posen), um durch die Stadt zu bummeln. Die ersten Erwähnungen des Siedlungsgebietes hier gehen rund 12.000 Jahre zurück und Poznań ist die fünftgrößte polnische Stadt.

Wir starteten unseren Rundgang am Marktplatz, auf dem auch das Rathaus zu finden ist. Dieses wurde 1555 im Renaissancestil fertiggestellt und gehört zu den wertvollsten Baudenkmälern dieser Epoche in Mitteleuropa. Um 12 Uhr mittags kann man am Rathaus eine Touristenattraktion bewundern: Die Poznańer Ziegen, ein Paar mechanischer Ziegen, stößt jeden auf dem Turm des Poznańer Rathauses mit den Köpfen zusammen. In December, we flew back to Berlin to spend Christmas and New Year's with Dominik and other family and friends. To give ourselves a few days of "real vacation" (there's still a lot to do around the house/property in Berlin), Andreas and I drove to Poland for a few days. Our main destination was Warsaw, but on the way there, we stopped in Poznań to stroll through the city. The first records of settlement in this area date back around 12,000 years, and Poznań is the fifth-largest Polish city.

We started our tour at the Market Square, where the Town Hall is also located. Completed in 1555 in the Renaissance style, it is one of the most valuable architectural monuments of this period in Central Europe. At noon, you can admire a tourist attraction at the Town Hall: the Poznań Goats, a pair of mechanical goats, bump heads on anyone on the tower of the Poznań Town Hall. Nachdem das Spektakel beendet war, begannen wir den weiteren Rundgang. Was uns wieder aufgefallen ist: wie schön viele Restaurant-Eingänge dekoriert sind.

After the spectacle was over, we continued our tour. What struck us again was how beautifully many restaurant entrances are decorated.

Der Weihnachtsmarkt war auch bereits aufgebaut (und verdeckte leider teilweise den Blick auf die schönen Hausfassaden).

The Christmas market was already set up as well (and, unfortunately, partially obscured the view of the beautiful building facades).

Auf dem Weg dahin kamen wir an einem Piroggen-Restaurant (Piroggen sind ein traditionelles osteuropäisches Gericht, bei dem es sich um gefüllte Teigtaschen handelt) vorbei. Hier gab es für uns erst einmal Mittag und auch dieser Eingang war so toll dekoriert.

On the way there, we passed a pierogi restaurant (pierogi are a traditional Eastern European dish consisting of filled dumplings). We had lunch there, and the entrance was beautifully decorated as well.

Wir besuchten das Schloss. Im Inneren befindet sich ein Museum und man kann auch auf den Turm hinauf für einen wunderbaren Blick über die Stadt. Wir mussten dafür an dem Tag die 185 Stufen hinaufsteigen, da der Fahrstuhl defekt war, aber es hat sich gelohnt.

Es ging zurück zum Marktplatz, da der nächste Teil unserer Route von dort abbog.

We headed back to the market square, as the next part of our route branched off from there.

Immer wieder findet man Ziegen-Skulpturen in der ganzen Stadt.

Zwei der schönen Wandmalereien. Ich hatte mich sehr auf das zweite Gebäude gefreut, leider war auch davor Weihnachtsdeko aufgebaut.

Der Weg führte uns weiter auf die Insel Ostrów Tumski; hier befindet sich  die Erzkathedrale St. Peter und Paul, eine der ältesten Kirchen Polens und die älteste polnische Kathedrale. Sie stammt aus dem 10. Jahrhundert und ist das älteste historische Denkmal in Posen.

Our journey continued to the island of Ostrów Tumski, home to the Archcathedral of St. Peter and Paul, one of the oldest churches in Poland and the oldest Polish cathedral. Dating back to the 10th century, it is the oldest historical monument in Poznań.

Da es nun schon fast dunkel war, liefen wir noch einmal zum Marktplatz, um alles angeleuchtet zu sehen. 

Since it was almost dark by now, we walked back to the market square to see everything illuminated.

Wir hatten dann noch rund 3 h Fahrt bis zur Ankunft in Warschau. Unser gebuchtes Hotel hat uns dann noch ein kostenloses Upgrade auf die oberste Etage gegeben, und nach einem Blick aus dem Fenster sind wir auch schon müde ins Bett gefallen.

We still had about a three-hour drive ahead of us before arriving in Warsaw. Our hotel then gave us a free upgrade to the top floor, and after taking a quick look out the window, we—tired as we were—promptly fell into bed.
