road trip 04 - 05/2026: Sedona, AZ (day 12-15)

 An den Tagen 12 und 13 verbrachten wir nur im und am Camper, da es kühl, grau und windig war und der Camper teilweise stark gewackelt hat.

Tag 14 war mein Geburtstag, der auch nicht so verlief, wie gedacht. Wir hatten einen Helikopterflug gebucht, aber ca. 2 h vorher kam ein Anruf, dass der Flug nicht stattfinden kann, da sich die Treibstofflieferung verzögert. Abends waren wir beim Weingut in Cottonwood essen, einfach schon wegen der Aussicht (die Pizza dort ist aber auch gut).

We spent days 12 and 13 just in and around the camper, as it was cool, gray, and windy, and the camper was rocking quite a bit at times.

Day 14 was my birthday, and it didn't go quite as planned either. We had booked a helicopter flight, but about two hours beforehand, we received a call saying the flight couldn't go ahead because the fuel delivery was delayed. In the evening, we went to a winery in Cottonwood for dinner—if only for the view (though the pizza there is good, too).

Der Helikopterflug wurde dann an Tag 15 bei perfektem Wetter nachgeholt. Am Flughafen in Sedona gibt es auch einen schönen Aussichtspunkt, der allerdings $3 fürs Parken kostet. Die Gebuehr entfiel fuer uns, da die Rundfluege auch von dort starten und wenn man etwas frueher kommt, kann man noch entspannt zum Aussichtspunkt gehen vorher. Pirate blieb im klimatisierten Camper, was er gut fand.

The helicopter flight finally took place on day 15 in perfect weather. There is a nice viewpoint at the Sedona airport, though parking there costs $3. We didn't have to pay the fee because the scenic flights depart from that same location; if you arrive a bit early, you can take a leisurely walk to the viewpoint beforehand. Pirate stayed in the air-conditioned camper, which he liked.

Dann war es so weit und unsere 10 Minuten in der Luft mit einer Runde über Sedona fanden statt. Wir hatten Glück und den Helikopter auch für uns alleine. Das wussten wir aber vorher nicht, und wir hatten eh beide Plätze in der Pilotenreihe gebucht.

Then the moment arrived, and we took our ten-minute flight, circling over Sedona. We were lucky enough to have the helicopter all to ourselves—though we hadn't known that beforehand, as we had simply booked both seats in the front row next to the pilot.

Nahe des Flughafens gibt es noch einen schönen Wanderweg, mit verschiedenen Aussichtspunkten, aber parken ist dort immer etwas anstrengend. Wir hatten Glück, und ein Parkplatz war gerade frei. Somit hielt Andreas spontan an, und wir liefen zum Aussichtspunkt.

There is another lovely hiking trail near the airport with various viewpoints, though parking there is always a bit of a hassle. We got lucky, and a spot happened to be free. So, Andreas stopped on the spur of the moment, and we walked to the viewpoint.

Für uns ging es dann noch kurz einkaufen, da es die letzte Chance auf ordentliches Brot für 3 Wochen war (Sedona hat einen Whole Foods). Abends haben wir dann, soweit es ging, alles abgebaut und weggeräumt, am nächsten Tag zogen wir weiter.

We then made a quick shopping trip, as it was our last chance to get decent bread for three weeks (Sedona has a Whole Foods). In the evening, we packed up and stowed away everything we could, since we were moving on the next day.
