road trip 04 - 05/2026: Oak Creek Canyon, AZ (day 6)

 An diesem Nachmittag fuhren wir den Oak Creek Canyon Scenic Byway, der über Sedona 26 Kilometer/16 Meilen durch den Coconino National Forest hoch in die Berge bis zu einem Aussichtspunkt führt. Das Schöne ist dabei die kurvige Straße (Serpentinen), die diesmal jedoch eine Baustelle war. Somit wurde immer abwechselnd eine Fahrspur für mehrere Minuten gesperrt, da die Leitplanke ausgetauscht wurde.

That afternoon, we drove along the Oak Creek Canyon Scenic Byway, which winds 26 kilometers (16 miles) from Sedona up through the Coconino National Forest and into the mountains to a viewpoint. The highlight is the winding road (switchbacks) itself, though on this occasion, there was construction work underway; consequently, traffic had to alternate, with one lane closed for several minutes at a time while the guardrail was being replaced.

Dieser LKW hat erst spät gemerkt, dass die Straße für seine Länge verboten ist. Ein Polizist hatte die Straße gesperrt, damit er wenden konnte.

This truck only realized too late that the road was off-limits for vehicles of its length. A police officer had blocked the road so that it could turn around.

Hier oben gibt es auch einen Navajo-Schmuckmarkt mit vielen Ständen und großer Auswahl. Ich hatte auch Glück und bekam identischen Ersatz für meine Ohrringe, die ich hier vor 2 Jahren gekauft habe, da ich einen verloren hatte. Anschließend fuhren wir wieder zum Campingplatz zurück.

Up here, there is also a Navajo jewelry market with many stalls and a wide selection. I was lucky enough to find an identical replacement for the earrings I had bought here two years ago after I lost one. Afterward, we drove back to the campsite.
