road trip 04 - 05/2026: Sedona & Dead Horse Ranch State Park, AZ (day 7 & 8 )

Am 7. Am Nachmittag fuhren wir einmal nach Sedona rein und bummelten kurz durch das Örtchen. Sedona hat den Vorteil einer atemberaubenden Umgebung, den Ort selbst mögen wir aber nicht, da er nur aus Touranbietern, Restaurants, Schmuck- und Souvenirläden besteht, die alle dasselbe anbieten – und das zu völlig überzogenen Preisen –, weshalb wir einfach aus Prinzip raus sind. Sedona ist dennoch gut besucht, und für viele ist es wirklich toll; die Einkaufstüten sind gut gefüllt. Geschmäcker sind halt verschieden und das ist auch ok. Ich hatte auf eine schöne Postkarte gehofft, aber gefunden hab ich jetzt nichts, was wir nicht schon vor 2 Jahren verschickt haben – somit wurde nichts gekauft.

In the afternoon, we drove into Sedona and took a brief stroll through the town. While Sedona boasts a breathtaking setting, we don't care for the town itself; it consists almost entirely of tour operators, restaurants, and shops selling jewelry and souvenirs—all offering the same things at exorbitant prices—so we steer clear of them on principle. Sedona is popular, though, and many people love it; you see plenty of full shopping bags. Tastes differ, of course, and that's fine. I had hoped to find a nice postcard, but I didn't see anything we hadn't already sent two years ago—so, in the end, we didn't buy a thing.

Läuft man die Main Street entlang, findet man immer wieder schöne Skulpturen aus verschiedenen Materialien.

As you walk along Main Street, you repeatedly come across beautiful sculptures made from various materials.

Was Sedona aber bietet, ist die traumhafte Aussicht auf die Umgebung.

What Sedona does offer, however, is a stunning view of the surrounding area.

Diese Skulptur finde ich sehr schön: "The Call of the Canyon "("Der Ruf der Schlucht") von James Muir. Das Pionierpaar verkörpert den Geist der ersten angloamerikanischen Siedler im Oak Creek Canyon. Das zerbrochene Wagenrad symbolisiert den Abschluss einer Epoche der Menschheitsgeschichte und den Weg in ein neues Zeitalter, das von der Laterne der Wahrheit und Freiheit erhellt wird. Beide Figuren befinden sich auf gleicher Höhe, was ihre Gleichberechtigung symbolisiert.

I find this sculpture—"The Call of the Canyon" by James Muir—very beautiful. The pioneer couple embodies the spirit of the first Anglo-American settlers in Oak Creek Canyon. The broken wagon wheel symbolizes the end of an era in human history and the path into a new age, illuminated by the lantern of truth and freedom. Both figures are positioned at the same height, symbolizing their equality.

Das ist meine Lieblingsskulptur: Die Statue des "Cowboy-Malers“ – offiziell "Red Rocks and the Cowboy Artist“ betitelt. Das Kunstwerk würdigt sowohl die atemberaubenden roten Felsen der Region als auch das Vermächtnis des Westernkünstlers Joe Beeler.

This is my favorite sculpture: the statue of the "Cowboy Artist"—officially titled "Red Rocks and the Cowboy Artist." The artwork pays tribute to both the region's breathtaking red rocks and the legacy of Western artist Joe Beeler.

Auf dem Rückweg sind wir einen kleinen Umweg entlang des Red Rock Scenic Byway gefahren.

On the way back, we took a small detour along the Red Rock Scenic Byway.

Dabei kommt man am wohl spektakulärsten Haus dieser Gegend vorbei: dem Sedona Cliff House. Das Haus liegt rund 60 Meter über dem Bodenniveau und verfügt über einen Schrägaufzug, der das Haus oben mit dem Parkplatz weiter unten verbindet. Das etwa 1,6 Hektar große Grundstück liegt hoch über dem Oak Creek in West Sedona und bietet einen Rundumblick.Das auf massivem Fels errichtete Haus umfasst drei Schlafzimmer, drei Badezimmer sowie eine Wohnfläche von rund 200 Quadratmetern.

The house sits approximately 200 feet above ground level and features an inclined elevator. Situated high above Oak Creek in West Sedona, the property spans roughly 4.0 acres and offers panoramic views. Built on solid rock, the house comprises three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a living area of ​​approximately 2,150 square feet.

Den nächsten Tag verbrachten wir komplett im State Park, wobei wir am Nachmittag einfach um die kleinen Seen dort spazierten.

We spent the entire next day at the state park, simply strolling around the small lakes there in the afternoon.
